But I learned a lot because of it.īut now after figuring out the issues with my RO it is one of the first gun’s I reach for in the safe, I love shooting it now. The last 3 Springfield’s that i’ve bought have all been plagued by initial problems with a lot of ftf’s and fte’s, 2 of them were simply a matter of a thorough deep clean and polishing the feed ramps, the third, my 9mm RO was quite simply a POS, and after 2 trips back still really didn’t cycle or work reliably and the mistakes found in it after returned, by me soured my opinion of Springfield’s capabilities. All poor quality control, I would also state at this point that I consider myself a loose fanboy, their products can be fantastic or a source of pure frustration. Loose barrel to slide fits cause erratic accuracy as well as loose barrel to bushing fits and poorly machined feed ramps. But things like a tight breech to hook dimension causes poor feed issues and lots of ftf’s. Well Mark, my take on it is that I believe that Springfield is all over on their quality control with things like their slide to frame fits very good and snug and the barrel chambers also within spec but to the tighter end if things, all what I would call good quality control. But can anyone shed some light on the issue I described? Is this typical for a new SA 9mm gun? Should I expect it to settle in after a few hundred more rounds? I think the recoil spring the gun shipped with may be a little light and I will probably replace it with a flat wire spring. I don't know if the barrel link is sticking, or what is going on. The frame rails seem well mated to each other and there is no grittiness in the slide movement, but I can actually get the slide to hold open without engaging the slide stop. But my concern with this pistol is that there seems to be a "hitch" in the movement of the slide. I am used to new pistols requiring a few hundred rounds to get settled in. This was with good quality factory ammunition. However, my initial range trip saw a few stovepipes and once the slide failed to go all the way forward, locking the gun up. Overall I like the gun and it seems to be fit well and is easy to hit with. I recently purchased a 9mm Range Officer and based on initial impressions I have a question perhaps someone can help with. I am primarily a user of Colt 1911 pistols, but since I'm not really a strict brand loyalist I decided to add a Springfield Armory gun. Hello to everyone here in the SA section.
